I have the same problem telnetting into my Linux machine from a
Solaris machine (Solaris 2.4 --> Linux 1.2.1). The problem is
clearly caused by the telnet process sending TCP urgent data, and
it's consistent -- sending a ctl-C or ctl-Z freezes my telnet
session every time. I seem to remember some sort of off-by-one
ambiguity regarding the meaning of the urgent data pointer --
that might tie in somewhere.
Anyway, I'll take a closer look in the next several weeks,
if nobody else has by then. For now, I'm happily telnetting
from Solaris --> SunOS --> Linux (which works fine) as a
workaround, so that pushes this problem down my priority list
a bit ....
