Sure this should be the straight forward way of doing it. Also this is probably the one 
and only way..

I wouldn't be surprised if each vendor of SoftConfig (ie NE2K Card ) will use its own special 
setup register (positioned somewhere inside the IO space). Also many Vendors just don't 
want you to copy there cards... so they won't release any info about configuring the card...
You might try reengineering the setup software (But some vendors tell you you are not allowed to)
Creative Labs does this :-(
