mSQL 1.0.5 is available
The latest release of Mini SQL is now available from Bond.edu.au in
/pub/Minerva/msql. This is probably the last release in the 1.0.x
series as it is now very stable and portable. It is known to run
properly on over a dozen versions of UNIX including SunOS, Solaris,
HP-UX, AIX, Linux, FreeBSD-2, SCO, SVR4, NeXT, Cray Unicos, OSF/1 and
Ultrix.
mSQL-1.0.5 offers vast performance enhancements over earlier versions of
the 1.0.x code. It offers roughly a 20% increase for general query
processing. It also includes JOIN optimisation that reduces the
processing time for most joins by an order of magnitude or more (one
report of a query running on a Cray reduced processing time from 8
minutes to a few seconds!).
General Info
------------
Mini SQL (or mSQL) is a light weight database engine that offers a
significant subset of ANSI SQL as its query language. It is small, fast
and resource friendly package that doesn't kill machines. It doesn't
require vast amounts of memory or enhanced kernel limits to operate. It
is quite useable on a PC class machine running BSD or Linux with as
little as 8 megs of memory. On an entry level SPARC or similar it's very
fast.
