Simple messages for simple things so I keep it brief. I have written
a Perl script that keeps your system logs checked, though it is
aimed at anybody doing sys. admin (or trying to be one :) it can
be specially useful to newcomers.
What does it do? It checks all the system logs and verifies that they have not
grown beyond a user-specified size. The size can be specified in
blocks or bytes.
Whether you run it interactively or on boot up or via crontab you get a
pretty good idea of how your system logs are. You can get an
interactive report of all the logs OR the program can mail a message
to root reminding him/her that <logs> are too big.
For more information (instructions/document) send the following message
(body) to majordomo@panama.iaehv.nl :
get sample chklogs.txt
To get the program use:
get sample chklogs
Comments and suggestions are welcome.
