Introducing Xdenu
-----------------
Xdenu is a very small Linux distribution kit. The main goals
of construction have been the ease of installation and small
size. The origin of the idea came from the need to develop
the Helsinki University of Technology *campus* local area
network. The intention was to give everybody an easy X [1] access
to the University computers. Ie. Xdenu makes your pc fully
qualified and fast X terminal with small Linux system capabilities.

For minimizing the distribution size, XFree86 v. 2.1.1
is used. In the latest Xdenu version the X server can
be changed to v. 3.1.1.

Xdenu is free, but cardware (see below).

[1] X Window System is a trademark of X Consortium, Inc.

Xdenu 1.0
---------
Xdenu 1.0 was the first release. It allows the use of X terminal
on pc with two floppies only. No hard disk space is required.
The package contains shell scripts for the whole installation.
In most cases no handwork is needed.

Xdenu 2.0
---------
Xdenu 2.0 is an enhanced edition. This version is relying on the
Umsdos file system, so Linux can be installed without repartitioning
of the hard drive. The package itself is a one-floppy self-extracting
dos executable. The installation of Linux can't be easier than this.
For upgrading there are Xdenu modules, which at the moment consist of
manual pages (mankit), ppp, term, networking programs (netkit) and
various X modules (S3, Mach32, Mach8, SVGA, VGA16). For two months
no bug reports have been given, so Xdenu 2.0 is essentially bugfree.

Both releases are documented and contain all the necessary
information to setup the system as well as pointers for further
information.
