This thing was breaking people's .newsrc files, and since I'm still
more or less news-clueless, I got it off of picayune by editing the
active file by hand (after first pinging for news-clueful, 100% packet
loss.) Since I (obviously) didn't lock the file first, I could have
screwed up message numbers, I guess especially for people posting
locally, so if anyone complains about lost posts around 4:30pm on
Monday, it's probably my fault -- sorry.
I then used /usr/lib/newsbin/maint/delgroup to remove the group
"properly", and rmdir'ed as it suggested... It's removed on snork as
well; it's *still* trying to "lock the news system" on beacon (after
10 minutes?)
.... oh, well ....
