I'm a bit disturbed by all of this.

It seems to me that this is the release team's responsibility, and
it's quite disturbing to think that nothing is going to be done
because Mike hasn't provided the information.

If the release team doesn't know how prevelant a problem with the release
is, assuming that it does not happen very often is a poor way to start.
Someone should do the research necessary to draw a definitive
conclusion.

The bug was reported ages ago, yet little if any action was taken.

I understand that people tend to ignore Mike, and I do
this myself, but that doesn't mean the issues he's raised
are any less valid, nor that it is appropriate to sweep
him under the rug.

ps: regarding traceroute, I'm still kind of annoyed that my action has caused
the decision to not build traceroute in the release for SGIs to happen. Despite
the fact that we are largely duplicating release functionality, it costs us
very little to do so [maintenance cost is very very low] and provides a
consistent interface, as well as not breaking a pathname that has worked in the
past (/usr/athena/etc/traceroute). Craig compares this to the
/usr/athena/bin/ls question, and frankly, I think the wrong decision was made
there too. Nevertheless, please do as you think best. I'm just spewing here
because you and Craig both asked me in email last week and at some point I
stopped replying.
