Accomplishments past period:
----------------------------
- Held project kickoff meeting.
- Created TSM UNIX Delivery web pages.
- Published initial TSM to UNIX Delivery Project Plan.
- The TSM UNIX Delivery team (and interested parties) attended a
presentation by Pioneer (an IBM Business Partner) on the IBM ESS
(Enterprise Storage Server).
- Reviewed and selected SAN storage hardware. Due to compatibility
issues withivoli and our 3494 tape library, the choice for SAN
hardware was narrowed down to IBM. Spcial bid pricing allowed for the
selection of the IBM Enterprise Storage Server 800.
- Sun server, storage and SAN hardware orders initiated. Estimated
delivery time is 4-6 weeks.
- Site prepartion for new hardware started: Defined location, removed
old 9121 mainframe hardware, ordered necessary racks, contacted
electricians, etc.
- In an effort to save maintenance costs for existing TSM storage on the
IBM mainframe, we are considering utilizing some space in the
IBM ESS 800 box until TSM in ready in the UNIX space.
- Presented at ITPartners
Milestones completed:
---------------------
- Initial Team meeting - Delivery team formed
- Project Plan created
- TSM server and SAN hardware finalized and ordered
Issues:
-------
- Need to understand the impact of Mainframe connectivity and use of ESS
on TSM UNIX Delivery project.
Goals for next month:
---------------------
- Determine feasibility of using some IBM ESS storage for existing TSM
mainframe data. This would allow us to utilize the new hardware (ESS)
and eliminate old mainframe disk, saving high maintenance costs on
the old hardware. If determined OK, order necessary hardware.
- Start work on TSM migration Support plan.
- Complete Hardware site prepartion work.
- Refine Project Plan.
- Work with IBM Business Partner on planning for ESS/SAN implementation.
- Review hardware inventory with IBM for 3494 ATL upgrade. Plan first
step of upgrade.
