I am preparing a paper for presentation at the LITA National Conference next
month, on the subject of Internet access options & practices, and the overall
training environment. I am putting out this call for information, anecdotes,
etc. pertaining to four specific points, and I would greatly welcome any and
all comments. I will summarize the results in one way or another on the list.
Here are the four things I am seeking info about, and many thanks in advance:
(1) any instances where universities have begun to charge their own faculty
and students for Internet access;
(2) practices of universities regarding giving or selling Internet access
("guest accounts") to individuals or organizations not directly affiliated
with the university -- and if charging, how much; and have the practices
changed during the past year or two?
(3) examples of non-university options for Internet access, the pricing, and
who is or is not eligible to participate if any restrictions apply;
(4) training -- does there now exist or is there emerging an Internet training
niche industry? Some university libraries and computer centers and
corporations have in-house training for their own staff/employees, but
what I am after here are more entrepreneurial examples of organizations or
individuals offering Internet training....my organization is providing
such training, what others are?
