The PORTALS group of libraries will mount several tape-
loaded bibliographic databases, which will be available
for searching by end-users of member libraries using
Internet as a wide area network. We would like leads to
search software.
Thumbnail specifications:
Multi-user, runs on Internet accessible computer, currently
in use somewhere, NOT hardware or database specific,
user-cordial interface, good vendor support, modest
maintenance, reasonable total system cost.
Critical comments (positive and negative) from anyone
with first-hand knowledge of such software are solicited.
Please send Email to the author, not the list.
The ideal solution would be a package including
database(s), search software, hardware and document
delivery. This package would be *open* in that it would
accept foreign database and document suppliers and
would not be hardware or software specific. Leads to
system integrators working to this end will also be
appreciated.

I would rather risk failure than achieve it without risk.
