It is nice to know that someone else out there is concerned with
valuing immeasurable services! And using them. It has been
heavy on my mind all morning after hearing about video/telephone
services that will be available in homes very soon. The FCC has
suddenly become threatening to cable companies, etc. Will we
approach this new service with creativity and the knowledge that
technology WILL march on, instead of hanging in the shadows of what
it costs. It seems that the latter is not relevant--especially to
those of us who are after efficient service.
Lest you think that I would spend unwisely, I must say that we should
look at common sense budgeting in the light of the new tech, and not
waste time on negative wheel-spinning. Cable companies are upset, but
they must have seen it coming: time to accommodate; time to change.
What does this mean for libraries? Are we really the last bastians for
those without modems? NOT MY PATRONS! They deserve better.
