Software for locking people out of Macs. At Boise State University we
purchased Access Managed Environment - AME from Casady & Greene, Inc.
22734 Portola Dr. Salina CA 93908 800-359-4920. "A.M.E. is an integrated
security program for the Macintosh." We have one Mac in the Library - a
gift from the math department when we purchased MathSci on CD-Rom. This
software is easy to use and prevents people from turning the Mac into a
word processer when the Reference desk is not staffed.

To the moderator: I don't know how appropriate this is for PACS-L, but it's the
only forum I know of where I might get an informed answer. Thanks.
I work in a public library that performs both desk and telephone reference work.
Our telephone reference office contains our electronic catalogue terminal which
is also hooked up to a CD-ROM jukebox station. Answering the phone and typing
queries into the terminal is a pain in the neck, literally. So, we are looking
into the possibility of using operator headsets plugged into the phone base as a
n alternative. We have a ROLM phone system. I understand AT&T makes several\
models, but I don't know what's compatible with our system. What do PACS-L
users use? Please respond to me directly and not to the list. Thanks.

I'm a graduate student in the School of Library and Information Science at
Indiana University, Bloomington. I would love some knowledge straight from
practitioners about how automation of "small" libraries differs from that
of mid-sized or large libraries. The results will be summarized for those
who contact me directly and express interest. (I am still new at using

that would ease creation of author/title catalog cards & appropriate book
spine, pocket, & card labels. Suggestions? Address/phone would help;
