Subject: Networked access to databases
Disclaimer: In an attempt to head off any flames that one usually
gets when perceived to be "advertising on the Internet", I thought
I'd start out by saying that this: a) isn't intended to be self-
serving, and b) isn't intended as advertising. I'm posting this
to PACS-L because the publication I refer to isn't indexed in any
of the standard indexes for library literature. Consider it as
an FYI directed to interested parties who might not otherwise
have found out. :-)
Over the past month or two networked access to databases, licensing,
negotiating with vendors, etc., have proven to be fairly popular
topics with PACS-L subscribers. Inspired by the discussion on PACS-L,
I'm now two-thirds of the way through a three-part series of articles
on the topic. They're being published in Meckler's _Academic and
Library Computing_, beginning with the May 1992 issue. The framework
of the articles centers on a discussion of the ARL "Guidelines for
Accessing Local Databases".
