What is AMIGOS?
The U.S.- Mexico Interlibrary Loan Project
Initiated in the fall of 1989, the U.S.- Mexico interlibrary
Loan Projectis is a cooperative effort providing for the formal exchange
of books, photocopies and microforms between libraries in the Southwest
United States and Mexico. The following. U.S. libraries participate in
the project: Abilene Christian University, Arizona State University, Baylor
University, Lamar University, Laredo State University, New Mexico State
University, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University, Texas
Southmost College, Texas Tech. University, Trinity University, University
of Arizona, University of Arkansas, University of Houston, University of
New Mexico, University of Texas at Arlilngton, University of Texas at Austin,
University of texas at Dallas, University of Texas at el Paso, University of
Texas at San Antonio, University of Tulsa. All the U.S. participants are
members of AMIGOS Bibliographic Council. The Mexican libraries participating
in the Project are the following: Benjamin Franklin Library in Mexico City,
Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico, Instituto Tecnologico y de estudios
Superiores de Monterrey (Camplus State of Mexico), Universidad Iberoamericana,
Universidad de las Americas-Puebla, and Colegio de Mexico.
Library's online catalog may be accessed by other academic
institutions via Internet.
Library's Telenet is: bibes.pue.udlap.mx (140.148.1.5)
To access the online catalog do the following steps:
1. Type <set host bibes> from a DECNET node. If you are not in
a DECNET, telnet from any machine connected to Internet to
the following adress: bibes.pue.udlap.mx (140.148.1.5).
2. System prompts username:, type <LIBRARY> (no password
required).
Please note: requeriments VT100 or VT100 emulation.
(kp1 refer to the numeric or f# kiboard)
At this point the inquiry screen presents you with several
search types. From this list you may select a search by author, title,
subject or any other combinaton. (All the time there is online help.)
Once you have selected the search type, enter the search term(s).
Search term(s) may be partial words or phrase(s).
Example:
If the search type was "Title", a search term would be a word
or phrase that is known to exist in the title you wish to retrieve.
The online catalog may be accessed Monday through Friday:
8:00 AM - 20:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM - 16:00 PM. However, due to
computer maintenance requirements it may not be available from
15:00 PM - 20:00 PM on Friday.
On week days the online catalog is most heavily used from 8:00 AM
to 13:00 PM and from 15:00 PM to 17:00 PM
All titles acquired after October,1988 form part of our online
catalog. Actually 95,000 records are online, this represents 37% of our
library collections.
Our online catalog also includes the collection of Mexican
Government Publications.
We follow the Library of Congress Classification Schedules.
