Faculty for Schools of Library and Information Studies (6)
All fellowships have been awarded to University of North Texas School of
Library and Information Sciences by the U.S. Department of Education
under Title IIB of the Higher Education Act. All applicants must meet the
admission requirements of the school's interdisciplinary Ph.D program in
information science, which include: a master's degree in an information-
related field with a 3.4 GPA, GRE score of 1100 combined verbal and
quantitative with a minimum of 400 on both verbal and quantitative
sections and three letters of recommendation. Preference will be given to
candidates who have demonstrated prior interdisciplinary educational work
or research experience. Applications will be considered as received, with
deadline for applications June 15, 1992.
Recipients will receive:
1. $7,400 stipend
2. Tuition for fall, spring and summer terms
3. Related costs for participation in program, including travel to
national association meetings.

Computer-Assisted Information Systems
Program is designed to prepare researchers, educators, managers and
consultants with expertise in computer-assisted information systems for
positions in schools of library and information studies, libraries, networks
and consortia, and other non-profit and not-for-profit information-related
organizations. Applicants must provide evidence of interest in a career in
LIS education through prior work experience, personal essay and interview
with Ph.D. Program Director in person or by telephone and demonstrate
through career prograssion, prior research and publication, professional
activities and/or previous formal education a potential for leadership in an
academic environment.

Medical Informatics
Program will prepare professionals to address the growing problem of a
lack of qualified faculty in schools of library and information sciences with
an interdisciplinary background of medical informatics. Health care
professional are making national efforts to develop integrated medical
information systems and are hampered by a lack of personnel who have
the education and experience for the position. The curriculum is a true
interdisciplinary program, cutting across five academic units and a
departure from the traditional approach to providing professional
preparation at the doctoral level in the field of library and information
science. Applicants will be accepted on the basis of background for the
study of medical informatics, personal commitment to this field as
determined through reference letters and personal interview and evidence
of professional achievement at this point in their career.

Leadership Faculty for Schools of Library and Information Studies
Program offers an innovative approach to addressing identified needs for
faculty for LIS schools and uses an interdisciplinary approach to preparing
LIS faculty. The program includes a teaching experience segment, and
through a structured academic leadership component and fostering cross-
unit interaction patterns, provides the expertise to contribute leadership in
the integration of the school of library and information studies into the
university. Applicants must provide evidence of interest in a career in LIS
education through prior work experience, personal essay and interview with
the Ph.D. Program Director in person or by telephone and demonstrated
through career prograssion, prior research and publication, professional
activities and/or previous formal education potential for leadership in an
academic environment.
