----------------------------Original message----------------------------
Just a short message to announce a significant update to InfoPop - the
popup guide to using the internet (and Bitnet/CompuServe/BBS's etc).

Release 2.0 is now available and includes several significant updates:
 - you can now create your own databases to supplement the
   InfoPop database.
 - in addition to hypertext links, all text in the Infopop database
   is now searchable as well.
 - performance has been enhanced for users of older PCs and ATs. If
you have XMS (extended memory), InfoPop will use it for the swap
file...thus no 'swapping to disk' message as InfoPop wakes up or
goes back to sleep. Algorithm checks for EMS, then XMS then finally
   virtual memory (disk).
 - more entries in the database.

You can use the MakeInfo utility included with InfoPop to create
databases on any subject--providing, in effect, a free TSR
 hypertext help system.

INFPOP20.EXE (a self-extracting archive) is available via ftp from
George Mason University or the GMUtant OnLine BBS: 703 993-2219.

ftp address is gmuvax2.gmu.edu. In the library directory.

How?
Here's a brief sample showing how ftp is done from a VAX. If you're
not using a VAX you might have an 'ftp>' prompt instead of the '*'
shown below:

$ ftp gmuvax2.gmu.edu [return]

Username: anonymous [return]
Password: your email address (e.g., wallyg@fen1.gmu.edu)

*cd library [return]
*dir [return] <-- this will show you available files
*bget infpop20.exe [return]
You'll get a message about opening the file and then not much
else as the file transfers to you. When it finishes, you'll
get a status message showing how many bytes transferred. Should
be around 270K.

*bye [return] <- this logs you out and returns control to your
                  local machine.

Thanks to all the PACS-L readers who've sent me information
and updates (and yes, corrections too!).
