Subject: Visions
I'm presently on a committee that's charged with looking at longer-term
visions for where our network (ILLINET Online) might be in five to ten
years. What we're doing is not exactly long-range planning, but rather
establishing a philosphical/theoretical framework to guide the actual
planners/implementers. I thought it would be worthwhile to check on
the nets to see if others had any ideas that might be helpful.
More specifically, I'd appreciate hearing from any libraries or net-
works that have developed vision statements within the past year or
so (or who are in the process of developing such statements). What
sort of visions do people have of the "electronic library" as we
near the year 2000? I'm especially interested in views regarding the
use of the emerging network infrastructures (local, regional, national,
international) in the provision of library services.
Thanks in advance......
