Position: Automation/Reference Librarian
Faculty
Rank: Instructor or Assistant Professor
Duties: The Health Sciences Library of The Ohio State University is
seeking candidates for the position of Automation/Reference
Librarian. The Library serves the Colleges of Dentistry,
Medicine, Nursing, and Optometry; the School of Allied
Medical Professions; University Hospitals; a Comprehensive
Cancer Center, as well as a Cancer Hospital and Research
Institute; and the Nisonger Center for Mental Retardation
and Developmental Disabilities.
This position coordinates the Library's automation ac-
tivities, including maintenance and upgrades of current in-
house computer hardware and software. Participates in the
evaluation, selection, and installation of new microcomputer
hardware and software, and in planning the library's future
automation activities. Keeps other librarians appraised of
developments in various aspects of computerization.
Maintains and develops CD-ROM systems and end-user manuals.
Has responsibility for developing and/or coordinating the
Library's staff computer training. Serves as a liaison with
the University Libraries' Automation Office, and the
Academic Computing Services of the College of Medicine and
the University. As a member of the Reference Department,
will also provide reference services, including computer
searching of a variety of online databases, and assist
library users in accessing the campus-wide online
catalog/circulation system. Also has collection development
and user education responsibilities.
Qualifi- MLS from an ALA-accredited program. At least two years
cations experience, including online searching of a variety of
databases. Working knowledge of CD-ROM systems, Local Area
Networks, and microcomputer hardware and software is highly
desirable, as well as demonstrated planning and problem-
solving skills.
Salary: Commensurate with experience; $27,360 - $31,080.
