Bernie, I hope you mean library administrators, as well as, perhaps, the
institutional administrators. As Director, I regard use of the lists in
various fields, not all library specific, to be a useful resource and one that
my library staff at all levels should use and be familiar with. Job-specific
lists, like ACQNET for acquisitions and PACS-L for cataloging are important
adjuncts to increasing their knowledge of their fields and improving their
job performance. However, if the individuals want to subscribe to DOROTHY-L
and learn about mysteries that's fine with me. As to wasting work time, it
is not an issue. Each individual can judge whether they are doing their job
adequately, and the annual reviews will confirm that judgement. I wish all
my staff were more interested in the broad picture presented on the lists
so they could accomplish their tasks better.
