After hearing from various knowledgeable INTERNET and BITNET users that urged me
to distribute my announcement to the listservs listed in my guide, I sent out
the announcement to approximately 40 lists.
In return, I got some VERY nasty mail from three list owners concerning
multiple postings and posting to lists that I don't belong to. It sounded as
though I had let loose an INTERNET worm!! They told me I had violated CREN and
BITNET policy guidelines.
What is the proper procedure for getting such announcements out beyond the
library community? My intent was to reach potential users of my guide that are
not familiar with the Internet. Lists like PACS-L are where I have learned
most of what I now know about e-mail, the Internet, and electronic media in
general.
I need some input and/or support on this issue.
