is to say, relevant to PACS-L, I'm considering this subject closed.

DEAD-TREE format? What about all the electrons being wasted to
store this stuff on the disks of every recipient of the list? If you
expand your ecological horizons to include virtual resources, you'd
have to admit that wasting bytes is equally repugnent.
As a matter of fact, folks overly impressed with the 'include'
command--where 75% of the message consists of quoting information
already rec'd by subscribers--are not only wasting precious
magnetic resources but the time and keystrokes of hundreds of users
who have to wade through the >'s to find the kernel of wisdom
that's being added...

p.s. Does anyone know a good source of information for what RLG's
been doing in the past 24 hours? PACS-L is OK for some info
but I'm starting to get the itch for real-time updates...

Steve Nelson says that e-communication is necessarily more environmental
than paper mail -- at least in the case of the RLG blurb. Well, has this
been proven? How much energy does it cost to run the net? Where is it
coming from? Just a thought -- not a barb.

well, think of it like this: disposing of junk e-mail is more
environmentally sound than paper! :)
