The University of Pittsburgh has a facility, the Faculty
Technological Evaluation and Consulting (TEC) Center, where
faculty, staff, and graduate students can come to evaluate
software and hardware, that is not found in our public computing
labs and in many cases is the most recent technology.
The Center also supports vendor demonstrations, informal
non-credit classes, limited production, consulting, and special
projects. We have a team of system analysts who staff the Center
daily from 9 to 5.
The reason for this correspondence, is we feel the Center is not
being utilized to it's fullest potential. We are querying other
educational institutions who may have put this same concept into
practice, asking for their assistance in sharing with us any
similar successes or problems they may have experienced in
managing this type of facility. We are especially interested as
to how you were able to reach out to the community to 1) inform
them of the services you offered, 2) get their input on what type
of services they prefer and 3) what problems and success you may
have experienced.
I would very much appreciate your response to the questionnaire.
If the response is significant, I will share the results with
listservice members or anyone who may be interested.
I would like to thank you for your time and participation in this
survey. I would also appreciate any contact names or email
address that could help me in my search for information.
