Subject: CALL TO ALL LIBRARIANS ON THE INTERNET OR BITNET

This message has been cross-posted to other lists.

I have been working on a guide to INTERNET resources in agriculture.
I am almost finished with it. The guide will be available via ftp at
various sites. I will let everyone know when it is available.

I am now offering a challenge to other librarians on the INTERNET. In my
searching for information I have found very few subject specific guides. My
challenge is this: WHY CAN'T EACH LIBRARY ON THE INTERNET CONSTRUCT A GUIDE TO
RESOURCES IN A SUBJECT AREA THAT THEIR INSTITUTION IS STRONG IN? I have been
thinking about this for awhile. If this were to happen the resources on the
INTERNET would be better utilized.

I hope some others out there take up this challenge.

Subject: CALL TO ALL LIBRARIANS ON THE INTERNET OR BITNET --Clarification

From the responses I have gotten to my original message, a clarification is
needed.. I am not talking about librarians preparing guide to resources in
their library or even on their campus. I am talking about individual
librarians preparing guides to the INTERNET for different subject areas.

Guides are available at various sites to internet resources in the humanities
and medicine. I personally feel it is part of my job to prepare such guides
which would be of use to our faculty. That is why I am working on one in
agriculture. It does not list locally available resources. Our faculty are
reasonably aware of those. My aim to link faculty with other resoruces such as
INTERNET bulletin boards, remote opacs, WAIS, and any other things that may be
available.
