About the Library/Learning Resources Division 
Join a dynamic library team in an innovative library that will be doubling its physical space over the next two to three years. Participate in all services to students including reference, bibliographic instruction, collection development, and collection organization. Provide leadership in developing and implementing policies for Technical Services. Serve as the resource person for the classified staff in cataloging, acquisitions, serials, and physical processing. This position is responsible, along with other faculty, for the identification and assessment of student learning outcomes. 
Primary assignment will be at the San Luis Obispo Campus, although assignments may be day, evening, or weekend classes at the San Luis Obispo Campus, the North County Campus, Arroyo Grande High School, Nipomo High School, or other sites within San Luis Obispo County. 
The Library/Learning Resources Division includes Library, Instructional Technology Services, Distance Education, Instructional Programs (Library/Information Technology and Web Development Technology).

Desired Qualifications: 
The ideal candidates will have an ALA accredited MLS and demonstrate a passion for helping others learn how to find and evaluate information - both print and electronic. They will also demonstrate that they: 
  can analyze complicated problems;

  can set priorities, organize their time and are goal oriented; 
  can interact well with diverse clientele; 
  can write well; 
  can work independently and be a self-starter; 
  can balance many activities;

  are computer literate; 
  are team players who can perform their jobs in a manner that makes it easier for co-workers, superiors, and subordinates to do their own jobs well; 
  are responsible, flexible, dependable, fast, and accurate workers; 
  actively seek opportunities to grow both personally and professionally; 
  have an awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges. 
Required Qualifications 
Minimum qualifications required: 
  Master's in library science, library and information science OR Bachelor's in above AND Master's in a reasonably related field OR a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items above (candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment, indicated on the Equivalency Process information sheet attached to the application); OR a Community College credential in the discipline; 
  Experience in cataloging using the MARC format and AACR2 standards, OCLC bibliographic utility, and an automated library system. Experience with Sirsi Unicorn library system a plus; 
  Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic; socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. 
Application Process 
A committee composed of faculty and administrators will evaluate applications and will conduct initial interviews. Initial interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of May 20 and 21, 2004. Final interviews by the Superintendent/President are tentatively scheduled for June 9, 2004. 
Salary and Benefits 
Initial placement will be dependent upon education and experience. Fringe benefits include participation in a health, dental, and vision insurance plan. 
Domestic partner benefits are available. Membership in State Teacher's Retirement System or Public Employee's Retirement System if previously a member. 
Beginning Date of Employment 
Employment will begin August 11, 2004. The Superintendent/President may, at her discretion, extend time limits, offer the position as a full-time, temporary position, or re-initiate the search and selection procedure at any time. Employment and continuation of the position is contingent upon funding.
