POSITION: Head, Reference and Research Services, Fordham Health Sciences
Library, Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Administer the planning, coordination, evaluation,
management and implementation of all library reference and research
service programs and the School of Medicine Computer Education Center.
Hire, train, supervise and evaluate department staff (4 professional, 1
support). Serve as the departmental liaison to state and regional
groups. As a member of the library department head team, recommend and
implement library goals and directives. Reports to Associate University
Librarian for the Fordham Health Sciences Library.
QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred: Three years of professional experience in
Reference in an academic or medical library. Member of Academy of Health
Information Professionals. Competency in library technology applications
for medical reference, including online public access catalogs, CD ROMs,
online search services, microcomputer applications, and use of the
Internet. Successful supervisory experience with proven leadership and
planning abilities. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with
operational changes affecting library staff and technological systems.
Ability to provide creative and comprehensive solutions to problems.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to design and
implement research studies. Tolerance for ambiguity. Record of
scholarly achievement and professional service. Ability to work
effectively independently, and cooperatively with all elements of a
diverse constituency. Ability to view issues from a library-wide
perspective. Ability to deliver work on a deadline and to work
effectively on a management team. Required: ALA-accredited MLS or
master's degree in related field.
ENVIRONMENT: Wright State University has 17,000 students and offers a
comprehensive program of study including doctorates in 5 fields. The
Dayton metropolitan area with 1 million people features a wide diversity
of cultural and recreational activities and a rich quality of life.
Wright State is the central site for OhioLINK and will be one of the
first libraries to implement this statewide library system.
SALARY: $29,265-$42,744. Benefits include 22 days vacation and 10
holidays, health and dental plan, paid individual and family coursework,
and paid life insurance.
