In response to Steven Stone's ideas about posting student
bibliographies, I recently attended a NJ ASIS meeting where Paul
Kantor, a professor at SCILS (School of Communication,
Information and Library Studies) at Rutgers, talked about a pilot
project with similar objectives.
When users search the OPAC, after they have received their search
results, additional software is activated which asks if they
would like to see related documents suggested by their
colleagues. If they say yes, they are shown these documents.
They are also asked if they would like to link their suggested
readings to other documents in the OPAC. Over time, this would
create an enhanced set of search results using another form of
relevance - feedback from students and faculty.
If I do not have this quite right, I hope someone from the project
will post more details.
