Survey of Library Services Offered to Walk-in Distance Users

The fact that more and more academic institutions are jumping on the
distance education bandwagon is impacting an increasing number of academic
libraries. Research is needed to get a better understanding (1) of which
academic library services are actually available to walk-in distance
students from other institutions and (2) of the attitudes of local
academic librarians toward walk-in distance students from other
institutions as well as from their own institutions. Results of the survey
will permit/allow for assessment of services available to distance
students and attitudes toward the students using these services. Because
this is an issue that is becoming increasingly relevant to all academic
libraries, research in this area is important in order to provide
administrators and public service librarians with concrete data that can
be used to evaluate from a different perspective library services offered
at their institutions. Results will be presented in a future library
conference and/or journal article.

The survey can be found now through March 21 at
http://www.nova.edu/library/dils/surveysforms/survey.htm

By completing the survey on-line, respondents' answers will be anonymous.
Identifying your particular institution is optional. You may also request
the survey be sent to you by email, fax, or mail; characteristics
identifying any individuals will be removed from the results.
