I am afraid that I may have misled you. I am not now running CD-ROM OED2 under
Windows, but am interested in doing so. I can, however, make mention of general
security of Applications run from within Windows. The question, apart from the
casual wandering co-worker's eye, of security of programs is a serious one, es
pecially in Windows 3.x. There is no foolproof way to block access to certain p
rograms within Windows, apart from either (1) blanking the screen with a passwo
rd or (2) making the app "invisible" to Windows.
I would be interested in any information you might have about these issues, as
Windows, as it exists now, provides little support for security provisions. The
next Windows (NT), which, unfortunately for all of us, will be around (or abov
e!) $500 (compare Win 3.1 @ $130 or so), will provide a greater measure of secu
rity, but how much I don't know. It is "available" but will be mass released as
an individual package sometime next year.
