POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Librarian I – Acquisitions Librarian
Technical Services

 The Dick Smith Library of Tarleton State University is seeking a
motivated, energetic, user-centered individual to serve on Technical
Services team.  Reporting to the Division Head for Technical Services,
the Acquisitions Librarian oversees and performs Acquisitions
procedures, serves as liaison to the faculty and provides some Reference
work when needed on nights or weekends.

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES.  The Acquisitions Librarian is responsible
for overseeing and producing all aspects of the acquisitions process
including selections of vendors, bibliographic verification, tracking
funds, automated and manual ordering, and receipt of items.  Solves
problems with orders, creates purchase orders in local accounting system
and automated acquisitions system (DRA).  Serves as liaison with the
faculty, making suggestions, handling the requests, and keeping them
informed of status of orders and funds.  Monitors library materials
budget and supervises Library Assistant IV who is responsible for
ordering, receiving and paying of library materials.  This positions
will also perform day, evening and weekend rotation of reference duties
working with Public Services and other duties as assigned.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS.  MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA
accredited library school.  Have a working knowledge/experience with
OCLC or similar bibliographic network.  Also, have knowledge of
integrated library systems and acquisitions.

 Must have knowledge of process and trends in print and electronic
publishing and automated acquisitions library systems.  Must have
excellent interpersonal written and oral communication skills.  Must be
detailed oriented with a high accuracy work rate.  Must be able to work
with diverse groups in an ever-changing automated environment, be a
self-motivated independent worker, and a problem solver.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS.  Have knowledge of DRA and some familiarity
with business accounting systems and some supervisory skills.

 SETTING.  Tarleton State University, a regional university supporting
7,500 undergraduate and graduate students is located in Stephenville,
Texas, (ranked among the best small towns in America), is one-hour
southwest of Fort Worth.  A member of The Texas A&M University System,

 SALARY & BENEFITS.  A 12-month, professional appointment starting at
$27,000  + benefits (salary will increase 9/1), includes choice of group
medical and retirement programs; 14 state holidays; paid vacation/sick
leave and no state or local income taxes.
