The new issue of American Libraries was in my mail last night. I took a fast
look at the first 20 academic library job postings in the back: 17 of 20
included "accredited MLS" or the more specific "ALA-accredited MLS or
equivalent" as requirements. The other three either just said MLS or allowed
for equivalent experience in some specific aspect of library work.
That's consistent with what I've seen while working at two liberal arts
colleges and two state universities, and interviewing at a few other
libraries: the ALA-accredited degree has been demanded by search committees.

I'm currently enrolled in a one year old MLIS program at Trevecca Nazarene
University. With extensive computer and other educational backgrounds, will
not being from an ALA-accredited program always be a hinderance?
