Dear Readers:
The Michigan Library Consortium and the OCLC Institute are pleased to offer
"Knowledge Management: Methods & Systems," September 5-7, 2001 in Lansing,
Michigan.
What is your library's biggest asset? It isn't the collection - it is the
Librarians and the knowledge they possess. Knowledge management has been
defined as "a discipline that promotes an integrated approach to
identifying, capturing, evaluating, retrieving and sharing all of an
enterprise's information assets." The techniques of knowledge management
can be extended to libraries in fulfilling the knowledge needs of their
patrons.
MLC and the OCLC Institute invite you to spend 2.5 days examining Knowledge
Management from a library perspective and considering how you can use
Knowledge Management to tackle the institutional problems that your library
faces.
Topics include:
* Components and characteristics of knowledge management
* System fundamentals
* Functional requirements
* System performance
* Current information technology trends of corporate KM systems
Your learning will be facilitated through lecture, group discussion, guided
laboratory exercises, case analyses, and small group presentations. A major
portion of the seminar is devoted to providing hands-on experience using an
example Knowledge Management System.
You will take home a tangible product that can be expanded and utilized as a
starting point for a customized Knowledge Management system at your
institution
