Santiago Canyon College
SALARY
RSCCD has one of the highest faculty salary schedules among California's 72
community college districts. New faculty may be placed as high as step 9 on
the salary schedule based upon verified teaching/work experience. The
starting salary may range from $37,785 to $66,557, 175 contract days,
depending upon education and experience. Additional compensation is provided
for work beyond the basic teaching contract including summer and the winter
intersession.
BENEFITS
* The district will contribute up to $9,654.88 per year toward the
medical/dental insurance expense for the employee and any eligible
dependents, plus $1,250 per year for additional fringe benefit expenses;
* Life insurance coverage of $50,000 or the employee's annual salary,
whichever is greater;
* Ten days of sick leave per year
* Membership in the State Teacher's Retirement System.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications (Applicants must meet one of the following):
1. Possess from an ALA accredited institution:
* A master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information
Science.
1. Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing
service in the discipline, OR
2. The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum
qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the applicant
form.)
Desirable Qualifications:
1. A working knowledge of and experience with Library automation and
technical services, preferably in an academic setting.
2. Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse
academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of
community college students.
3. Experience with programming languages such as Unix, C++, as well as
HTML and CGI and Windows NT highly desirable.
4. Experience in planning and managing Library automation systems;
experience in coordinating technical services functions, particularly
cataloging.
5. Working knowledge of MARC, AACR2, RLIN, or OCLC, Library of Congress
Classification and Subject Headings, and authority control issues.
6. Working knowledge of Voyager (or other comparable) library
management system, demonstrated knowledge of CD ROM network applications,
experience in Windows and DOS environment, experience with development of
WWW Home Pages and with various facets of the Internet..
7. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
8. Demonstrated leadership ability.
9. Willingness to participate in shared governance.
10. Strong public service orientation.
11. Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills.
12. Ability to meet deadlines for assigned reports and activities.
13. Ability to actively encourage the use of library resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership in automation and technical services. Serve as resource
in these areas to Library staff. Recommend policies and procedure on
Internet utilization. Help coordinate District wide access to Library
resources. Serves as Santiago Canyon College liaison to the District
computing department. Be responsible for selection and maintenance of
library materials in assigned subject areas; recommend purchase of library
resources that support and enrich the curriculum; keep abreast of
developments in library science, learning resources, and information
technology fields; actively participate in staff, faculty, committee, and
professional meeting within the shared governance structure; assist in the
development of library publications and presentations to promote the library
and its resources; work harmoniously with other staff members to achieve
efficient library operations; participate in the development of Santiago
Canyon College library policies and procedures; assist the Library
Department Chair and appropriate administrators in developing ideas which
meet and/or anticipate the library services objectives of Santiago Canyon
College. Assignment may include teaching library technology courses, general
supervision of classified staff or student assistants; one evening per week
service; perform other library related duties as assigned.
SELECTION CRITERIA

In addition to the requirements and responsibilities listed, the following
criteria will be considered in selecting candidates for interviews:

7. Demonstrated experience in working with a diverse socioeconomic
community
8. Credentials or minimum qualifications authorizing service in other
areas of need
9. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
10. Bilingual ability in Spanish, Vietnamese or other Asian languages
Based upon the information presented on the application materials, a limited
number of candidates with qualifications most pertinent to the position will
be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include a
written test and oral interview.
Interview:
Applicants selected for an interview may be required to take additional
tests or assessments and will be notified of such prior to the date of the
interview.
During the oral session, those selected for interviews will, in addition to
the above, be evaluated on the following factors:
1. Oral communication skills
2. General appearance and presentation
3. Problem solving skills
4. Successful teaching, problem solving or performance demonstration
5. Writing skills/demonstration

their related experience to ensure correct evaluation of their
qualifications. A predetermined set of questions will be asked during all
interviews. Evaluation criteria will be applied consistently to all
applicants.

United States. Cost of TB testing and the fee for criminal record check
will be paid for by the candidate.
