Tufts University seeks a creative and dynamic University Systems
Librarian. Candidate will join the University
Library Technology Services (ULTS) department, which supports the
shared technology activities of four libraries, including currently
a DRA Classic integrated library system (ILS) and library services
provided via the web. The position is responsible for the library integrated
system, as well as for web and proxied web services on our in-house NT domain.
The USL works with and backs up the Systems Administrator for NT server support.
The ideal candidate will enjoy collaborating with colleagues in a team
based environment on a wide range of library systems issues, including
implementation of new solutions in the areas of document delivery,
database management, and web-based access to online resources. This
position provides user support to library staff for the ILS, including
training on new systems, and report design and production. The
position may also be involved in upcoming digital library development
at Tufts. Many opportunities exist for creatively applying technical
skills toward library issues. Participation in teams and committees
across all the libraries and at the university level are part of the
responsibilities of this position. The position will provide
leadership during the libraries' transition to a next generation ILS.
Position requirements: Masters degree in Library/Information Science;
experience managing integrated library systems software; familiarity
with databases, MARC formats, metadata concepts; demonstrable
expertise in Windows NT server, workstation, and networking
technologies. Some familiarity with VMS.
Excellent oral & written communication skills for support and training
activities; excellent interpersonal skills; strong organizational
skills to manage simultaneous projects and tasks; involves occasional
night/weekend work.
Preferred: Experience with DRA Classic, the VMS operating system and
DCL; Web server management experience, HTML, HTTP protocols, and web
applications programming; SQL and ASP/VB, Perl or Java/Javascript
experience a real plus.
This position reports to the Director of ULTS and does not have
supervisory responsibilities. ULTS is not responsible for direct
desktop hardware and software support at the libraries. These are
managed by support staff within the individual schools.
Minimum salary: $50,000/yr.
