Information Literacy/Reference Librarian
Binghamton University, State University of New York, seeks to fill a
library faculty position for the Glenn G. Bartle Library, which houses
materials in the social sciences, arts, humanities, management,
mathematics, computer science, education and human development.
Description: The position is primarily responsible for participating in
the Libraries' Information Literacy Program and providing reference
service in the humanities and social sciences. The incumbent will teach
an information literacy course, develop and deliver library orientations
and course-related information sessions, and produce print and
electronic instructional and promotional resources, including web pages
and tutorials. Work on some evenings and weekends required. Candidates
will be expected to meet faculty criteria for promotion and tenure.
Position reports to the Head of the Reference and Data Services
Department.
Qualifications: Required: MLS from an ALA accredited institution;
teaching or instructional experience at the academic level and
familiarity with humanities and social science research skills;
demonstrated ability in reference service using a wide range of print
and electronic information resources; excellent oral and written
communication skills; demonstrated facility for working with technology;
capacity to relate constructively to faculty and students and to work
collegially; strong commitment to service and professional development.
Preferred: Second master's degree or graduate coursework in a relevant
discipline; minimum one year of academic library reference experience;
experience with HTML, multimedia, and instructional technology; strong
teaching skills.
Finalists invited for an interview must demonstrate communication skills
and knowledge of public services through a presentation to library
faculty, staff, and other members of the university community.
Compensation: Appointment at Assistant or Senior Assistant Librarian
rank, depending on qualifications and experience. Salary minimum for
Assistant Librarian $31,000, plus excellent fringe benefits including
TIAA/CREF.
