NetWellness Experts Provide Tips for Avoiding Holiday Hazards
Cincinnati, Ohio [December 8, 2000] NetWellness experts from The Cincinnati
Drug and Poison Information Center have created a web tip sheet on how to
stay safe during the holidays.
"The holidays are a time for coming together of family and friends. We do
not want those occasions to be marred with any emergencies caused by
poisoning hazards," says Gaylene B. Tsipis, MS, RPh, Co-Director of The
Cincinnati Drug and Poison Information Center and Assistant Professor of
Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy.
"During the holidays, schedules are disrupted and there are many seasonal
items in the house that children are not used to. That mix creates the most
common scenario for poisonings to occur. Our message is to be aware and be
careful," says Tsipis.
"Tips for Avoiding Holiday Hazards" can be accessed by going to the
NetWellness (netwellness.org) homepage and clicking on the picture of the
featured experts. In addition, NetWellness is providing a direct link from
its site to nationally recognized Poison Control and Information Centers.
The Cincinnati Drug and Poison Information Center, part of Children's
Hospital Medical Center, is a 24-hour emergency and technical information
telephone service for a 22 county region in Ohio for anyone with concerns
involving poison or drugs. The toll free crisis hotline number is
1-800-872-5111. Go the NetWellness homepage and click on the picture of the
featured experts to find your local poison control center.
NetWellness is a non-profit consumer health Web site that provides high
quality information created and evaluated by health professions faculty at
the University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University, and Case Western
Reserve University. Started in June 1995, NetWellness was one of the
nation's first health web sites.
