Programs at ALA Annual Conference
We are pleased to announce two programs planned for this year's ALA
Conference and hope you will join us.
Sunday July 9th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Handheld Computers (PDAs): Present and Future Possibilities
What are handheld computers? What impact will they have on library services
and collections? How are libraries using them?
David Pogue, Macworld Columnist and author of Palm Pilot: The Ultimate
Guide, Macs for Dummies, iMacs for Dummies, and the Microsloth Joke Book,
will cover some basics and demonstrate two of the most popular handheld
devices, the Palm Pilot and PocketPC.
W. David Melan*on, netLibrary's Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing
Officer will examine some of the key issues involved in developing ebook
products for handheld devices.
Hye Ok Park, Head of Library Systems, Henry Madden Library, California State
University, Fresno will discuss her recent experience integrating handheld
support into their wireless local area network.
The program will be in Room 353B on Level 3 of the Lakeside Center at
McCormick Place
Saturday July 8th 9:30am to Noon
Distance Education for Library Professionals and Paraprofessionals
In Illinois, libraries are taking a leading role in distance learning
programs to provide degree-based courses and continuing education programs
for library professionals and paraprofessionals. Five speakers will describe
the challenges that they have met and offer advice based on their
experiences.
The program will be in Room E251C on Level 2 of the Lakeside Center at
McCormick Place
