Catalog Librarian -- Questia Media, Inc.

Questia Media, Inc. is building an online research service for
undergraduate college students in the liberal arts.  We are offering a
unique and outstanding opportunity for an experienced academic librarian to
contribute to the creation of a dynamic digital library system to support
the information needs of the twenty-first century. We are searching for
experienced and visionary librarians to join our fast growing team. This
position reports to the Director of Collection Development.

Roles and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Director of Collections Management, the
successful candidate will manage the cataloging operations in a highly
energetic and changing environment.  Other responsibilities include:

    Participate actively in the formulation of cataloging and technical
services policies
    Set goals and establish priorities and workflow
    Assist in quality control and problem-solving activities
    Participate in cataloging programs and standard setting on a national
level
    Supervise a copy cataloging staff

Requirements

    MLS degree from an ALA-credited institution
    3-5 years academic library experience
    Knowledge of cataloging and automated systems in order to play an
active role in implementing SIRSI
    Experience with MARC21, national cataloging standards, and one of the
national bibliographic
     utilities, preferably  OCLC
    Experience in cataloging electronic materials, internet resources and
applications, and interpretation of
     the Library of Congress subject headings and classification
    Active involvement in academic library professional associations and/or
scholarly societies and associations
    Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
    Demonstrated leadership skills, as well as the ability to be a team
player
    Good problem solving and decision making skills
    Ability to manage concurrent and multiple tasks, projects and
priorities in a fast-paced environment
