I was very interested in Steve's article on community networks. Add
to your list the National Capital Freenet in Ottawa Canada
(freenet.carleton.ca). While still in the pilot stage, we hope to be
online to the local public by January 1993. As of the moment, we have
over 100 organizations involved and more than 300 people. Modems and
a machine have been donated. Information is being prepared and
volunteers recruited.
A similar project is underway in Victoria BC.
Of interest to this group will be the fact that the Ottawa and Nepean
(a suburb) Public Libraries have been involved from the very
beginning. In fact, the Ottawa Public Library is planning to place
FreeNet terminals in their branches starting next month with trials in
their main branch.
