Subject: CORDLESS PHONES: Seeking advice
We want to add a cordless phone to the reference desk to assist our librarians
when they are searching for information in the stacks. I know many other
libraries have already installed cordless phones and I would like to learn
from these sites what to look out for. Any problems, any good ideas? Has
anyone had great luck with a particular model of phone?
I appreciate all comments! Oh, yes, how oftern do people lose the phone in
the stacks? Just kidding!

Subject: Ink for refilling inkjet printer cartridges
We have been refilling the printer cartridges of our Hewlett
Packard DeskJet printers with refill kits from various companies. I
would like to find out where one can buy the inkjet ink in bulk, without
the refilling apparatus. It seems as if the refill kits (and of course
the new cartridges from HP) are supplying a little bit of ink at a
whopping price.
Does anyone know of a supplier for inkjet printer ink?
Also, is there some other type of ink that will work for refilling these
cartridges?

Subject: CD-Roms being put into Floppy disk drives
The message about inserting CD-Roms into floppy disk drives (or should
that be floppy disc drives?) has obviously struck a chord.
Here the problem has been so bad that we have had to put locks on the
floppy drives. This does hamper downloading of course :-) Anyone
needing to download has to get the key from the Library Counter and
we have to remember to lock up afterwards.
Roll on the universal 31/2 disk and the computer literate user!

If my interpretation is correct, the user was asking how to scan a
document into graphical form that is already a text file in the PC. If
this is true, then the answer is yes. Graphics Workshop, a shareware
product, can transform text files into many different types of graphical
formats, including bitmap, which I believe is the format used by Adonis.

Subject: Durable printers
This is being sent to Labmanager and PACS-L.
We have an ancient Okidata Microline 192 that has been a real workhorse.
We wish Okidata still made this model because nothing has compared to it
for ease of use and durability. Unfortunately, this one is on its last
legs so we need to replace it. We know several printers we don't want,
but we'd appreciate any suggestions for non-jamming, inexpensive, basic,
dot matrix printers for use with a CD workstation. The noise factor is
not all that important in this instance, but durability and simplicity
are. Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted. Thanks.
