MARS Editor/Moderator
The Machine-Assisted Reference Section of the Reference and User
Services Association of the American Library
Association is looking for an individual to serve as the "Messages from
MARS" Editor/MARS-L Moderator.
A brief position description follows:
Please note that this is a volunteer, non-paying position.
POSITION DESCRIPTION -- "MESSAGES FROM MARS" EDITOR/MARS-L MODERATOR
The "Messages from MARS" Editor/MARS-L Moderator is responsible for the
quarterly publication of "Messages from MARS," the official newsletter
column of the Machine-Assisted Reference Section of ALA's Reference and
User Services Association (RUSA). This column is published in the RUSA
Update newsletter and disseminates news of section and committee
activities to those concerned with computer-based reference and
information services in libraries. This person is also responsible for
management and operation of MARS-L, the section's
electronic information resource; MARS-L serves as an electronic version
of "Messages from MARS" and as a discussion list for section and other
related business.
Specific qualifications of candidates should include: membership in MARS
and RUSA; previous editorial experience and/or an undergraduate degree
in journalism, communications, English or another related field; a
demonstrated ability to meet deadlines; familiarity with and access to
the Internet and electronic mail; ability to attend both the ALA Annual
Conference and the ALA Midwinter Meeting.

The individual will serve a one-year internship upon appointment,
followed by a three-year term as Editor/Moderator. Individuals
