SOLICITS APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION
LRC PUBLIC COMPUTING COORDINATOR
General Summary:
This position provides technical oversight and maintenance of the
Learning Resource Center's instructional computer environment, including
all networks and workstations of the public services and training areas,
as well as the Computer Commons, while also supervising staff and
operations of the Commons. This position reports directly to the
Director of Technical Services.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Instructional Computing:
1. Collaborate with faculty and staff in developing and maintaining the
library's instructional computing environment as a portal to various
digital resources, such as the library catalog, full-text databases and
other networked resources, in support of WCC students' instructional
needs.
2. Develop and maintain the LRC's training facilities as part of its
instructional computer environment.
3. Recommend software and hardware for workstations in the public and
training computing areas of the LRC.
4. Recommend and implement standards for all LRC public and training
computing workstations in cooperation with LRC and Information Systems
staff.
5. Troubleshoot and provide expert and creative solutions to user
problems. Keep public and training computing workstations operational.
6. Maintain the Student Computing website.
7. Keep up to date with developments in computing and network
technologies relevant to LRC public and training computing needs.
8. Train designated LRC public services staff to perform "quick fixes"
of frequently occurring problems.
9. Requisition supplies and recommend annual hardware and software
acquisitions for LRC public and training computing.
10. Coordinate all repairs on LRC public and training computing
equipment.
11. Interface with the LRC department heads, librarians, and Information
Systems staff to assure the continuation of services and smooth
operations.
12. Provide student training and self-help tools for using Internet and
other information resources.
13. Perform other assignments as assigned by the Director of Technical
Services.
B. Computing Commons:
1. Recommend and implement guidelines and procedures for use of the
Computer Commons.
2. Recommend for hire and supervise all lab staff, providing regular
training and coaching as needed. Develop and manage the semester staff
schedule.
3. Provide personal and online assistance to Common users when needed.
4. Maintain regular statistics of Computer Commons usage. Provide
statistical reports in a variety of formats as needed.
5. Keep Computer Commons software up to date and consistent with
designated curriculum needs and public access computing standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree with at least 12 credits in computer related
courses.
2. Equivalent of two (2) years full time work experience in a computing
environment.
3. Demonstrated ability to work with both Macintosh and PC platforms.
4. Minimum of one (1) year (or equivalent) of experience supervising
staff.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of the following software: Windows '95, Mac
OS, MS Office 97, and Internet applications.
Additional Qualifications Preferred:
1. Experience with Windows NT.
2. Experience with Novel 4.1.
3. Experience with technical training.
4. Familiarity with HTML and web development.
Salary:
Initial salary range is $40,400 - $44,440; Independent
Group-Professional/Managerial classification grade 205. Numerous fringe
benefits include health, dental, life insurance and Michigan Public
School Employees Retirement System.
