Bright spots from the old PACS-L?

Here's a question, ideally for off-the-cuff responses:
Has a particular thread or posting on the old PACS-L changed
your life, or been especially important/memorable? How?
If you're an old hand (let's say anyone who subscribed to
PACS-L with a BITNET address) who used to post but finally
just lurked, why?
I'm not trying to cause trouble here--but I'm delighted to
see the list reborn, and I'm also working on a possible article
about the first decade of PACS-L. A few interesting quotes might
make their way into the article.
I'd suggest responding either to the list (I'm sure others
would be interested) or directly to me (wcc@notes.rlg.org);
if the moderators don't want to see this stuff cluttering
up the list, I'm sure they'll say so.
(That was two questions, wasn't it? Ah well...nobody expects
the Spanish Inquisition.)
Cheers,
Walt Crawford
