         New Additions to _Beyond Bookmarks_

I am pleased to announce the addition of several new Web sites to _Beyond
Bookmarks_, my clearinghouse devoted to Web sites that have applied or adapted
standard library classification schemes and/or controlled vocabularies for
organizing Web resources.

Among the noteworthy additions are the number of sites which comprise the
Finnish Virtual Library which have applied both national and well as standard
controlled vocabularies to Web resources. This collections and its various
components represent the most comprehensive application of controlled
vocabularies to my knowledge. I invite my colleagues to review these at their
convenience and invite the nomination of other sites that have applied standard
(or national) controlled vocabularies and/or
classification(s) to organize Web sites for inclusion in the next update of
_Beyond Bookmarks_.

    _Beyond Bookmarks_ is located at

   http://www.public.iastate.edu/~CYBERSTACKS/CTW.htm

BTW: I was pleased to learn about the forthcoming conference
entitled "Controlled Vocabularies and the Internet" to be held at the National
Library of Medicine on September 29, 1999. A preliminary program for the
conference is available at

    http://www.dtic.mil/cendi/thes_agenda.html
