We had a disk machine set up by a vendor who gave a cut to the College. It
was a regular spiral type snack vending machine that could be adapted for
pens, etc. too. A vendor partnership is the way to go rather than trying to
do it internally. The good machines are very expensive to buy and fix if they
break. Our venture was very successful until the "suits" in the
administration failed to renegotiate the vendor contract and it was removed
mid semester.

A variety of "potato chip machines" and/or "candy machines" can be adapted
to this use. Most use some sort of spiral device that either drops a
bagged item or pushes out an item such as a disk. Talk to your local
vending service provider about the options. Depending on contractual
arrangements on your campus, you may find that the company that vends
drinks and food may have the right of first refusal for any vending on campus.
