We have a page called Internet Starting Points which is the default
starting point on (most) public internet machines and on all staff
machines. http://www.ci.santa-fe.nm.us/sfpl/bkmk1.html

The machines in the children's room have their own start page at
http://www.ci.santa-fe.nm.us/sfpl/kidstart.html

The dedicated-to-periodical-access machines use a magazine gateway page
that has only a limited number of closed destinations (the databases and
our subscription list):
http://www.ci.santa-fe.nm.us/sfpl/gate2.html

Everyone on the staff imagines bkmk1.html is the Home page since they get
it by clicking on the Home button; I've given up fighting that
nomenclature. If a staff member says Home Page they mean bkmk1.html . The
real index.html is invisible to them for some reason.

Conceptually I consider that our actual index.html is the Home page; and
assume that is true for non-local users as well. Certainly that's what
appears in other sites' lists and directories. I suspect that local people
connecting to the library from home tend to start from (have bookmarked)
the catalog.

At various times I have created other special-purpose pages, e.g., an
introduction to the Web for the Friends of the Library; a page of
professional links and library-related stuff that nobody ever looks at
but me. I know the head of technical services aspires to create a sort of
local TPOT page to be the default starting point for her staff but it
doesn't exist yet.

Is this what you wanted to know?
