Vacancy Posting:  Consultant, Library Automation

The Missouri Secretary of States' Office is a learning organization,
committed to customer service and teamwork.  This position serves as a
member of the Library Development team of nine consultants.

The Library Automation Consultant provides consulting services on
library automation systems, needs assessment, project planning,
retrospective conversion and working with vendors to Missouri libraries
and library boards.  The consultant administers state and federal grant
programs; coordinates library automation projects with other library
technology programs; plans training and continuing education on library
automation; and works on a wide range of technology-related projects.

Requirements:  Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited
program; minimum of three years experience in a responsible professional
position related to library automation or equivalent experience;
specific knowledge and experience in technology standards and vendor
systems. A training position may be available to candidates who are
recent graduates and not able to present three years of experience.

Library Automation Software

Sanderson (Columbus, Ohio) is seeking a qualified librarian for a
newly-created position for our SPYDUS Library Automation Software
package.  The initial duties involve customer support of existing
installations at public and academic libraries in Ohio and the
surrounding states.  As you learn the product -- training will primarily
be on-the-job -- the role with expand/change to include marketing and
sales activities.  Occasional regional travel required; possible
overseas travel for training.

Qualifications -- MS in Library Science or equivalent library/information
industry experience.  Public speaking, training, interpersonal
communication and problem finding/problem solving skills are essential,
as is the ability to communicate technical information in terms users can
comprehend.  The candidate must be computer literate and friendly
preferably with practical experience in programming and data bases.

Salary -- $30,000 to $45,000 per year depending on related qualifications
and experience.  Future potential for sales commission in addition to
salary. Excellent medical and other benefits.  Prefer candidates in the
Columbus area or those willing to pay their own relocation costs.

               Electronic Reference Services Coordinator
               Ekstrom Library, University of Louisville Libraries

          We are seeking an experienced electronic resources reference
librarian to provide leadership in planning, selecting, and evaluating
electronic resources and to assist with the maintenance of public
workstations in the reference area. The successful candidate should be
innovative, energetic, and service oriented, and will be part of the
reference unit of the main campus library, composed of eight librarians
and three support staff.

          Under the leadership of the University Librarian (ACRL Academic
Librarian of the Year), the Libraries are pursuing a learner-centered,
team-based organization. The University of Louisville is Kentucky's
metropolitan university serving 22,000 students and the largest

          Responsibilities include:
             Providing reference and instructional services.
             Assisting with the maintenance of public workstations in
the reference area.
             Providing leadership in planning, selecting, and

             Assisting with the development and maintenance of the
Libraries' database web pages.
             Serving as faculty liaison to the School of Education.

          Minimum Qualifications
             MLS from an ALA accredited school,
             three years of professional library experience,
             advanced skills in HTML,
             experience with networked environments,
             knowledge of computer hardware and software applications,
             effective communication and interpersonal skills,
             strong public service orientation, and
             potential for scholarship to meet University promotion
requirements.

          Preferred Qualifications
             Experience in instruction,
             experience with Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences (SPSS) or Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or other statistical
software, and
             a degree in Education or experience working with an
education collection.

          Minimum salary $31,000. The University of Louisville offers a

but not tenure track. Promotion requires a successful demonstration of
scholarship, among other criteria.

The Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) and the
Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS),
divisions of the American Library Association, are seeking candidates
for the position of deputy executive director in support of activities
and projects of the two divisions. General Responsibilities include:
development, planning, marketing and management of the divisions'
continuing education programs such as regional institutes,
preconferences and annual conference programs frequently in
collaboration with division committees in both divisions. Also
provides support and guidance to members of LAMA and ALCTS serving in
elected and appointed capacities; support for the divisions'
publication programs, coordination of the divisions' membership
promotion programs; provision of advisory services concerning the
programs of the two divisions; day to day supervision and management
of the LAMA /ALCTS office; and supervision of special projects and
other responsibilities as assigned.

The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with the
LAMA and ALCTS members and governing groups; be able to develop and
maintain effective working relationships within a professional
association setting; possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal
communication skills; and be able to work well under pressure but with
the flexibility to organize work and schedule to accommodate competing
priorities.

An MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program is required; a minimum
of 2 years professional experience in a library, plus general subject
knowledge in areas of the divisions' responsibility is also required.
Salary range: $43,667-$55,655.
