Reference Librarian
The Richard A. Gleeson Library and Charles & Nancy Geschke Learning
Resource Center at the University of San Francisco is accepting
applications for the full-time position of Reference Librarian. This
position reports to the Head of the Reference and Research Services
Department, and is one of a staff of seven reference librarians and two
library assistants. Duties include staffing the Reference Desk,
providing bibilographic instruction and collection development, and
other assignments as required. This position is on a non-traditional
Sunday through Thursday schedule. Appointment is at the Assistant
Librarian level. Salary range: $30,464 - $39,442. Salary is dependent
upon qualifications. Professional development activities are encouraged
and supported. Librarians are part of a collective bargaining unit. The
University of San Francisco offers a generous benefits package.
Qualified applicants must have an M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program.
Spring 1999 graduates will be considered. Applicants must possess
aptitude to answer questions at a busy Reference Desk; have experience
in the use of electronic reference resources; be highly
service-oriented; be able to interact well with students, faculty and
colleagues; be flexible and able to effectively handle the pressures and
demands of public service and other reference duties; and possess
excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills. Enthusiasm
for bibliographic instruction a plus. Preference given to candidates
with previous library work experience; previous supervisory experience;
background or experience in any of the following subject areas: sciences
or health sciences, Latin-American or Pacific Rim studies, business; and
experience or interest in electronic resources collection development.
