DANCING WITH CHANGE:
THE LIBRARY AS KNOWLEDGE CREATOR AND PUBLISHER
February 19, 1999, 11-1:00 PM Central Time
Sponsored by the College of DuPage and the Texas State Library and
Archives Commission
Highlights special interests of public and school libraries on their
challenge as consumers of electronic and print publishing, as well as
their role as creator of information.
ROMAN BOHACHEVSKY, director of the Ft. Bend County Public Library in
Richmond, Texas will be one member of a distinguished panel that will
discuss this pressing library issue. JAMES NEAL, Dean of the Eisenhower
Library from Johns Hopkins University and academic librarian of the year
1997-ACRL will be the program leader.
SUMMARY
Libraries are expanding their capacities for developing and distributing
networked information. They can become competitors of, or creative
partners of, traditional commercial and scholarly publishers. Libraries
can be assertive and, as content owners and providers, use their
traditional access and preservation mandates to generate revenue and
develop new business models for their services.
