Academic Staff, Fixed Term
Full-time, 12 months appointment
Starting Date: April, 1999
Responsibilities:
1. Provide reference assistance to library users in all academic
disciplines including the use of business and education reference tools,
government documents, and legal materials.
2. Assist users in utilizing local and remote online catalogs, print, and
electronic information sources.
3. Participate in bibliographic instruction.
4. Assist in general and reference collection development efforts,
including identification of reliable resources on the Internet.
5. Develop library user guides and webpages.
6. Work evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.
Required Qualifications:
=B7 MLS from an ALA accredited institution.=20
=B7 Second advanced degree in an academic discipline.
=B7 Professional reference experience.
=B7 Experience in bibliographic instruction.
=B7 knowledge of print and electronic information sources including the
Internet.
=B7 demonstrated ability using microcomputers in a networked environment.
=B7 excellent communications, interpersonal and instructional skills.
=B7 ability to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic, rapidly
changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
=B7 Reference experience (especially electronic resources) and/or subject
discipline specialty in education.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is a premier comprehensive
university and is one of 13 universities in the University of Wisconsin
System. It has an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students in 42
undergraduate and 13 graduate programs in the four Colleges of Arts and
Communication, Business and Economics, Education and Letters and Sciences
with 1030 faculty, academic and classified staff members. Located in the
scenic Kettle Moraine area of southeastern Wisconsin, UW-Whitewater is a
regional cultural and resource center within convenient driving distance to
Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago.
The Harold G. Andersen Library is a modern facility with over 450,000
volumes, 2000 periodical subscriptions, 1,000,000 microforms, 12,600
audiovisual items and 332,000 government documents, a CD-ROM LAN, and has
full Internet access. The library integrated system is KeyNotis. The
library personnel consists of 23 professional and support staff members.
