Director of Library Systems Vacancy
Oakland Community College (OCC) is a comprehensive, multi-campus, public
two-year institution with a primary mission of human development
achieved by quality learning opportunities and the services designed to
meet the present and emerging educational needs of the communities it
serves. OCC is the largest of Michigan's community colleges enrolling
over 50,000 students a year. The college, located in the dynamic growth
area of southeast Michigan has five sites with a library located on each
site.
The Director of Library Systems is responsible for the planning,
implementation, management, and maintenance of the library information
system. The Director oversees, coordinates, and translates innovative
processes and programs to enhance the information literacy level of the
college community. Duties include acquisition, processing, cataloging of
all formats of library material.
Oakland Community College is a member of the Detroit Area Library
Network (DALNET), a consortium of academic, public, and special
libraries in southeast Michigan. DALNET is now implementing a migration
from the NOTIS system to the Horizon system, including Horizon's
WebPac. Responsibilities for the new position, Director of Library
Systems at OCC would include being the Project Manager for the migration
to Horizon. OCC invites your application for the position of Director

Minimum Qualifications: Master's in Library Science from an ALA
accredited institution. Three (3) years of successful progressively
more demanding technical management experience in an automated academic
library environment. Experience must include supervision, establishing
budgets, maintaining proper accounting records, acquiring library
materials, cataloging, and interfacing the libraries acquisition system
with the college's financial system.

COORDINATOR OF BIBLIOGRAPHIC INSTRUCTION/REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
Assistant or Associate Professor
Responsibilities: Coordinating, planning and developing the Library's
instructional program, including outreach services, with a team of
reference/instructional librarians; assists with design of instructional
classes; develops innovative teaching methods integrating new
technologies; teaches general and specialized library instruction
classes; develops instructional publications in various formats. Under
direction of Head of Reference, participates in general and specialized
reference services, online searching and collection development; serves
as faculty liaison with academic departments as assigned; assists patrons
in the use of OPAC, CD-ROM's, online services, and the Internet/WWW.
Qualifications: Required: M.L.S., or its equivalent from an
ALA-accredited library school, and an additional Master's degree or PhD.
Highly desirable: Experience in bibliographic instruction, academic
reference, distance learning, electronic resources, online searching, and
collection development; excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
ability to meet requirements for promotion/tenure. Salary: Assistant
Professor: $33,344 - $44,800; Associate Professor: $40,173 - $57,530,
commensurate with qualifications and experience. Liberal fringe benefits.
35-hour, 5-day work week, including some evening and/or weekend hours.
Hunter College, the second oldest college in The City University of New
York, is a coeducational, fully accredited college, with a large and
diverse faculty in the liberal arts and sciences and in several
professional schools. Hunter's total enrollment is approximately 19,000
students. Of these, about 8,000 are full-time undergraduate, an
additional 7,000 are part-time students, and over 4,000 are graduate

With a professional staff of 24 librarians, Hunter College Library
contains approximately 840,000 volumes, 2,300 current periodical titles,
and a nonprint collection of discs, tapes, scores, CD-ROMs, and
microforms. The library resources of Hunter College are available
through CUNY+, an automated library system, which provides access to all
CUNY library collections.

POSITION: Cataloging Librarian
DESCRIPTION: The librarian in this position is responsible for
original and complex copy cataloging of materials in a variety of
subjects and formats, with an emphasis on Spanish language materials.
The position involves technical services support of the Latin American
Studies program and participation in the Cataloging and Authorities
team management process in a customer oriented environment.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution;
good reading knowledge of Spanish; minimum 1 year original cataloging
experience, preferably in an academic environment; knowledge of AACR2,
LCSH, LC classification and USMARC formats; experience using a major
bibliographic utility; strong communication and interpersonal skills;
a positive and cooperative attitude; and the ability to manage and
embrace change in the workplace. Desired: Experience using an
integrated local system; familiarity with language(s) in addition to
Spanish; knowledge/experience in cataloging electronic resources;
familiarity with national cooperative cataloging efforts, such as
NACO.
ENVIRONMENT: Vanderbilt University consists of ten schools and
colleges with an enrollment of over 10,000. The university is served
by The Jean and Alexander Heard Library, which has a collection of
over two million volumes and a staff of 230. The library is highly
automated with an online system based on Sirsi software and is a
member of Solinet. Resource Services is the centralized technical
processing and automation unit of the library system. The Cataloging
and Authorities Team participates in national cooperative cataloging
efforts including PCC and OCLC Enhance programs. Vanderbilt is
located in Nashville, Tennessee, a major business and educational
center in the mid-South with a population of over one million in the
metropolitan statistical area.
